FAQ

frequently asked questions

How do I know if I'm pregnant?

It can be difficult to know if you're pregnant because many pregnancy symptoms can be related to other issues or circumstances. The best way to know if you are really pregnant or not is to have a high-quality pregnancy test.

ABL offers laboratory quality pregnancy tests at no cost to you. You will receive your results during your pregnancy testing appointment.

Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Yes. ABL has a very strict confidentiality policy, and we value your privacy. We will not tell anyone you visited us, unless you give us permission to do so.

Our staff and volunteers work hard to protect your privacy and confidentiality. ABL will keep all information confidential except as required by Illinois law.

How much do the services cost?

Services at ABL are provided at no cost to you.

Why do I need an ultrasound?

An ultrasound will confirm that there is a fetal heartbeat (a live pregnancy) located where it should be (inside of the uterus) and estimate the gestational age of the baby (how many weeks into the pregnancy you are).

Do I need an appointment?

We recommend having an appointment, but we will accommodate walk-ins when possible. In order to minimize your wait, please contact us to schedule an appointment.

How long does an appointment take?

Typically 30-60 minutes. Many appointments are shorter than this, but we want to be sure that we have plenty of time to give you the information you want and address any questions you may have.

If you have a shortened time frame, just let our staff know when you make your appointment so that we can accommodate your situation.

I already have a baby. Can I get diapers, formula or other supplies?

Yes. We have a program that will help you provide all the necessary things you need for your baby. This program is free, but there are a few guidelines. Contact us for more information.

We also provide referrals to other available community resources.

I'm in an emergency situation. Can I get help without being in the program?

If you need urgent help, text "HELPLINE" to 313131 or call 1-800-712-4357 for a 24-Hour Help Line.

Regarding material assistance, we understand that emergency situations happen - like having to move suddenly or running out of diapers before your next paycheck. We offer emergency help to people in these situations.
